Our instructor is Murvel Ray, an accomplished potter and clay artist. You will learn basic hand-building processes and choose from various projects he has designed that incorporate pinch, coil, and slab techniques. When the weather gets warm, you might even throw on a pottery wheel outside in the back parking lot area near the studio.

Things you need to know:

    • Essential tools are available in the studio. You can bring your own but must take them after each class.
    • For every two hours you purchase, you can use the studio for another hour at no additional cost.
    • The studio can seat up to 8 people at a time.
    • You will reserve purchased hours on a first-come, first-served master calendar when you attend your first class.
    • While the studio is scheduled to be open Monday-Friday, closures may happen occasionally.
    • Closures will be posted on the PCA Facebook page. Join and check this page before coming to class.

Clay Costs: $30 per 25 lb bag.

    • It would be best if you bought your clay from PCA so we can control firing and glaze temperatures.
    • Please see the Buy Clay Here class listing to purchase a 25# bag of clay.
    • You can share it with a classmate, but one of you must purchase it through the website.
    • Our clay is currently B-Mix and will be fired to Cone 5.
    • B-Mix is a premier, cream-white, hand-building and throwing clay that is easy to form. It has a smooth porcelain texture, fires gray/white in reduction and lighter in oxidation.
    • Clay is reserved for Connect with Clay students only.

Firing Costs:

      • Firing will be calculated by size and charged separately. Your instructor will discuss payment options with you.
      • The studio has a limited number of underglazes and glazes for use. You can discuss bringing in your glazes with the instructor.
